SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY HAS A TARGET ON ITS BACK
While leaders in Orange, Culpeper, and Louisa Counties have worked hard to defend their communities and take meaningful action, Spotsylvania has remained dangerously vulnerable to becoming the next easy target. The lack of strong leadership, meaningful public engagement, and decisive action from the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors sends the wrong message — that our county is willing to accept what neighboring communities are fighting to stop.
Initially, the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors issued a weak letter merely stating they were “concerned.” (Letter and resolutions from other counties can be viewed on next page)
Spotsylvania County residents are strongly opposed to these massive transmission projects and the long-term damage they threaten to bring to our homes, farms, businesses, and rural way of life. Not only in our county, but in our neighboring counties as well. Residents asked the Board for a formal Resolution of Opposition to clearly demonstrate that Spotsylvania stands united with Orange, Culpeper, and Louisa Counties in defending our communities.
We were told the request for a formal Resolution of Opposition would be addressed, yet nothing has happened. No resolution has been introduced, and no meaningful action has been taken. The continued silence and delay only deepen the concerns of residents who expect stronger leadership and accountability from the officials elected to protect this county.
Concern without action accomplishes nothing. Silence and inaction only make Spotsylvania more vulnerable to outside interests that see our land and communities as expendable. If Spotsylvania is unwilling to stand and fight alongside Orange, Culpeper, and Louisa now, we cannot expect those counties to stand beside us later if this project shifts in our direction. By then, it may be too late.
